Here is a Worms related graphics tutorial I made a while back, for Photoshop apprentices :)

I make maps for mainstream schemes mostly, but I try to put something unique into them in some way to make both closed minded people and adventurous types interested. My primary aim is usually to make the map pleasing to look at, with the gameplay aspect following close behind.

All my sprite maps are done in this manner (but not necessarily in this order):
0. download game ROM for Gens
1. play the game and look for levels with good sprites (or cheat and skip to a level if I already know my target)
2. take screenshots with the emulator of sprites I may want to use
3. load the usually 30-50 screenshots in Photoshop CS3, extract my sprites, and dump them in a blank psd file
4. sort my sprites into groups (e.g., build, creatures, misc.) and sketch the layout and story
5. place solid sprites guided by my sketch, distribute minor sprites roughly evenly to create knock stoppers, hides, and detail in general
6. begin seamless merging and unifying of sprites, and create patterns of regularly occuring textures
7. check consistent lighting, proportions, clipping, alignment, variance, bugs, duplications
8. finalise layout, embed watermarks, and film blacks I don't want transparent

Because people ask how I make my maps :) step 7 is particularly important but very few people take the effort or take it into account...

I retired from mapping for a while. I have a handful of WIPs and as I'm a perfectionist I would hate to see those never making a release, but I've changed my lifestyle to suit my current priorities, and Worms did not make the grade.
